Gum disease, or periodontitis, results in the loss of bone and supporting structures around teeth. This can lead to eventual tooth loss. Periodontal regeneration is often used to rebuild the supporting structures around the teeth, which have been destroyed by periodontal disease. A variety of materials can be used to achieve this goal, and are custom selected based on the clinical presentation.
